When our phones ring and we see a toll-free number or unfamiliar area code, the first thought we all have is it an unwanted sales call.

In fact, studies have found that people are four times more likely to answer a call from a local number than a toll-free one. The same study found people are only 13 percent more likely to answer a call from an out of state area code.
